The Kildare Growers Group is a group of six wholesale nurseries operating in Co. Kildare, supplying the wholesale plant market in Ireland, the UK and beyond. With the majority of the groups’ customer base being garden centres, we also supply lansdcapers, garden designers and architects, hotels and golf clubs. The Kildare Growers Group was formed in 1984 in what was a fledging time for the development of the Irish Hardy Nursery Stock industry. Production was changing from the traditional method of open ground, to a modern containerised model presenting new and exciting opportunities for growers of nursery stock.
The ten member nurseries that formed the original group had recognised that working together was to be far more fruitful and rewarding than operating in isolation. The group organised winter seminars, open-days on member nurseries and established the Kildare Growers Show, which ran for twenty-four consecutive years from 1986 to 2009, bocoming the GLáS Show, the new national show with the full backing of Bord Bia, which has ran every year since. The Kildare Growers are committed to developing GLáS in partnership with Bord Bia for 2015, while lending continued support to other marketing initiatives including IFA Trolley Fairs and Bord Bia’s Bloom in the Park.
Carol Marks, development specialist at Bord Bia has this to say about the show:
“With its success over the past four occasions, GLAS has cemented its reputation as the national trade event for the amenity horticulture sector in Ireland. With our full support, GLAS promotes the best of Irish horticulture in an environment geared for business and networking, targeting senior buyers and decision makers in the retail, government and professional sectors”.
The six current members of the Kildare Growers Group represent every major Nursery in Kildare, and a significant portion of the national market, supplying everything from shrubs and trees, to heathers and climbers, and to perennials and herbaceous.
Meanwhile the Kildare Growers continues to remain true to the core values of assisting and co-operating with each other for the benefit of members and the industry at large.
